It's been a rough couple of months for Holly!

Yesterday, Holly Willoughby announced she would not be returning to host This Morning after 14 years.

Holly didn't give a reason for her sudden departure in her announcement, but noted that it was a "difficult goodbye" and she will "miss you all so much" when speaking to fans of the show.

On today's episode of This Morning, the show paid tribute to the presenter after 14 years hosting the show, and alluded to the reason why she stepped down.

After airing a sweet montage featuring clips of Holly on the show down through the years, presenters Rochelle Humes and Craig Doyle said a few words about their former colleague.

“Holly loved her job here and was really looking forward to the future of the show, but recent events, especially in the past week, have been hard to deal with and she’s quite rightly putting her family first.”

Earlier this week, Holly found out she was the victim of an attempted kidnapping plot and had to be put under police protection just moments before going on air.

Holly had to make the difficult decision to step away from the show for her own safety and that of her family.

In addition to this Holly has been subject to lots of online abuse and comments following the scandal that forced her co-host Philip Schofield to step down, and it's likely that continuing the show as normal just wasn't possible anymore.

It's the end of a daytime TV show era! While it's very unlikely we'll ever see Holly and Phil returning as a presenting duo, we at least hope that Holly can live her life out of the spotlight without fear of any more kidnapping attempts 😰
