Social distancing rules may change for the reopening of pubs and restaurants that serve food, but only if you leave after 90 minutes.

It’s understood the two metre rule will reduce to one under these conditions, after the the Health Protection Surveillance Centre issued draft guidelines.

Customers will also have to spend at least nine euro on a substantial meal.

Fáilte Ireland says it's seeking clarity on a number of aspects and will publish its own guidelines for pubs in the coming days.

The organisation's Paul Hayden has no issues with the nine euro minimum spend on food;

"Guidance there it defines a substantial meal and puts a value on it, this is as defined by the intoxicating liquor act in 1962 so that's the legislation that is in place so again most businesses would understand that aspect of it."
