A Fine Gael TD is calling for a crack-down on the illegal modification of e-scooters.
More than a year after new laws were introduced to regulate e-scooters, not a single prosecution has been brought for illegal modifications.
The legislation, brought in last May, says a person may not modify an electric scooter in a manner that compromises the safe use of the vehicle.
Dún Laoghaire TD Barry Ward, who is an e-scooter user himself, says greater enforcement is needed on the issue.
"There's a number of aspects in the regulations that are routinely being breached and we see that.
"If the regulations are there, let's enforce them and if Gardai need more resources to do that, let's give it to them.
"I know they have new machines which are like treadmills where they put the scooter on it and you see how fast it can go and that's the basis on which those scooters have been seized.
"I'm hoping and assuming prosecutions will follow from them."
