Ronan Keating has accepted "substantial damages" from the publisher of the News of the World over phone-hacking.

The Boyzone singer had voice mail messages intercepted.

He brought the legal action in April 2020 against News Group Newspapers.

At a hearing in London, the UK High Court heard he had identified a number of articles between 1996 and 2011 which contained private information, and claimed voice messages were intercepted by journalists.

He also said the group had obtained personal information through deception.

He claimed the publication of the articles generated distrust, and impacted on his personal relationships.

The court was told that Mr Keating had accepted NGN's offer to settle the claim.

Representatives for the publisher said they acknowledged the activity shouldn't have taken place and it had no right to intrude into Ronan Keating's private life.

Speaking after the hearing, the Dubliner said he's delighted NGN has accepted responsibilty, and is overjoyed he can now move on.
