Dublin city centre's only public toilets are to close.
The city council is planning to remove the temporary bathrooms at St Stephen's Green because of reduced demand and the current operator ceasing trading.
Around 1,500 people a week are using the toilets, significantly lower than when the bathrooms were added during the pandemic in 2020. They cost almost €400,000 a year to operate.
DCC says it's looking at future options for more permanent toilets at the site and for a second set on Princes Street North, at the side of the GPO.
The council, in a report to public reps, says one of the companies it's in discussions with, who specialise in automated units, strongly advised against placing an un-manned/automated public toilet unit in the city centre. They say there would be a "significant risk associated with anti-social activity".
Public toilets are also planned as part of the pedestrianisation of College Green, however construction isn't expected to begin until 2027.
