More Rain At Dublin Airport In An Hour Than For All Of May

More than 20 millimetres of rain fell in Dublin in just two hours this morning.

While the weather station at Dublin Airport saw more rainfall between 5am and 6am today than it recorded for the whole month of May.

11.5 millimetres fell in 60 minutes compared to 9.3 millimetres during all of last month.

Meanwhile a yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Dublin and six other counties until 2 o'clock this afternoon.

Meteorlogist Liz Walsh says the east of the country fared worst overnight and this morning;

"A line of heavy showers came in off the Irish sea...got about 21 millimetres so far in Dublin Airport and Casement, looking at a further up to 10 millimetres for the rest of the morning."

But she says the day will become drier with bright spells developing.

Forecast

Heavy showers are expected to develop again in Dublin tomorrow afternoon.

Met Éireann says the outlook is for changeable weather, with breezy conditions developing over the weekend.
