A new mental health message is encouraging Dubliners to share one kind word.

It's hoped the piece of street art in the city centre will prompt people to be kind to someone they meet during the course of their day.

The One Kind Word mural is an idea dreamt up by the mental health charity, 3Ts and artist and activist, Will St Leger.

They want passers-by to take the time to pass on one kind word to someone who may be having a tough time.

The artwork faces directly onto the Red Line Luas track at the corner of Liffey Street and Middle Abbey Street.

It's based on the simple facet we can change one person’s day – including our own – by finding one kind word to say, both online and in real life.

Noel Smyth, Chairman of 3TS, said all suicide prevention techniques start with "one kind word & a willing regard for others".

He believes that "is what makes this campaign so fitting – aiming to include even one kind word per day in everyone’s life – that has to amount to something great".

It's also hoped the One Kind Word campaign will encourage people to be kinder online.

3Ts is asking people to share stories of kindness on social media, using the hashtag #onekindword.

Speaking about the campaign, Artist Will St Leger said we know "quite often, one small kind word or gesture... might just change someone’s day for the better".

"At its extreme, we are all familiar with stories of people who have found themselves in suicidal crisis and have been positively impacted by the kindness of strangers", he said.

3TS is an independent Suicide Prevention charity which promotes positive mental health and aims to provide useful resources and research to combat Suicide in Ireland.
