Road traffic and footfall in Dublin is down by around 7% since work-from-home advice returned.

It's led to concerns about the impact on retailers in the run-up to Christmas.

The number of cars on the roads has returned to around 90% of pre-pandemic levels since the country emerged from lockdown.

But the re-introduction of working from home on November 19th has led to a slight reversal of that trend.

Around 23,000 cars used a stretch of the M50 on the Monday before that policy came in.

But yesterday's figure was around 7% lower - with similar drop-offs recorded on the M1 and M4.

Footfall in Dublin city is also down - from 85% of pre-covid levels at the start of the month, to just over 75% now.

Richard Guiney from Dublin Town says many businesses will struggle to survive if so many people stay away.

Latest figures also show 360,000 passenger journeys on public transport in Dublin in the week working from home took effect - down from 380,000 the previous week.
