There won't be a 'one size fits all' solution for social distancing in schools, according to the INTO.

New Department of Education guidance outlines that social distancing won't be essential for children in the first four years of schooling.

Third class to sixth class will be asked to keep one metre apart.

While secondary pupils should keep two metres apart. If that's not possible one metre is sufficient.

John Boyle, General Secretary of the teaching union the INTO, says this could be possible except in some circumstances;

"Except for the super size classes and unfortunately we've got way too many of them in the republic of Ireland. I think it will be possible for the class to keep the phyiscal distancing for the teacher and the children to be safe."

He went on to say;

"In those really big classes it may well be that some of those classes are going to have to be split and extra teachers may have to be employed."
