The Minister for Housing has ordered an investigation into the eviction of nine people in Dublin last week.

Darragh O'Brien has asked the Residential Tenancies Board to use its full powers to look into the treatment of the tenants at a property in Phibsborough.

Posting about the investigation on twitter, Minister O'Brien said he was deeply concerned about the incident;

"Many people watched the distressing video from Berkeley Rd last week. I have written to the RTB asking them to begin an investigation into the incident & report to me without delay. I am deeply concerned about the treatment of the tenants & want this case prioritised by the RTB."

Online footage appeared to show renters being forced out by security staff with face coverings and dark glasses.

The group was allowed back in after the eviction was deemed to be invalid.

Meanwhile Deputy Garda Commissioner John Twomey has already requested an “urgent” report into the incident that was attended by a number of Gardaí.

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties last week said it was concerned officers played a supportive role in the eviction.
