A new art installation has been brought to Dublin's Smithfield Square.

Dublin City Council have introduced 10 new lightboxes to the area, as part of an initiative to enhance outdoor areas of the capital.

Each box will display different images of paintings and sculptures from The Hugh Lane Gallery.

There is a mix of the Gallery’s favourite paintings and some lesser-known pieces by Irish and international artists.

They are solar-powered, and will have a QR code giving more information about each painting.

The initiative is being done on a trial basis but the council says if successful it may become a permanent addition to Smithfield.

The council says it may also be trialled in other parts of the City.

The images are easily visible both day and night.
