After over six decades defining Irish rebel music, The Wolfe Tones delivered a poignant final performance at Limerick’s Thomond Park on Sunday evening.

The legendary trio—Noel Nagle, Brian Warfield, and Tommy Byrne—took their final bow before 29,000 fans, as a sudden summer rain added drama to the sold‑out farewell.

Decked out in green scarves and Celtic gear, fans danced and sang through the downpour, turning the stadium into a sea of solidarity. Mary Lou McDonald hailed the band as “true rebels, true patriots,” while Kellie Harrington thanked them for keeping Irish history alive through song.

On stage, Warfield spoke passionately about global injustice and domestic issues. He criticised “British propaganda” and called for peace in Palestine, saying Israel must relinquish land to the Palestinians. He also addressed hospital waiting lists at home, promising to continue fighting for Ireland. Supporters waved Palestinian flags alongside Irish tricolours as the band performed Song of Liberty.

Classics like Come Out Ye Black and Tans, Boys of the Old Brigade, and Celtic Symphony sent the crowd wild, while an emotional rendition of Ballad of Joe McDonnell earned the longest cheers of the night. They closed with A Nation Once Again and On the One Road, leaving fans united in music, history, and dreams of a better future.
