Irish actor Chris O’Dowd has officially joined the ensemble cast of Artificial, an upcoming comedic-drama about OpenAI directed by Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name, Challengers) and produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
Artificial is a dramatised retelling of the dramatic events in November 2023, when OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman was suddenly fired by the board and reinstated just five days later amid an internal revolt and crisis that went viral across Silicon Valley. The screenplay is written by Saturday Night Live alumnus Simon Rich, who also serves as a producer alongside David Heyman and others. Amazon MGM is moving swiftly on the project, with filming scheduled to begin this summer in locations including San Francisco and Italy.
The cast already includes Andrew Garfield as Sam Altman, Monica Barbaro as CTO (and brief interim CEO) Mira Murati, Yura Borisov as co-founder Ilya Sutskever, along with Cooper Koch, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, Billie Lourd and Zosia Mamet. Ike Barinholtz has been cast as Elon Musk, adding another high-profile figure to the mix. Now with Chris O’Dowd on board, the Irish star rounds out what’s shaping up to be a formidable ensemble.
