Aaron Sorkin is officially bringing the next chapter of The Social Network to life—this time as writer and director—focusing on Meta’s more controversial years.
The film draws inspiration from The Facebook Files, Jeff Horwitz’s 2021 Wall Street Journal investigation into the platform’s role in misinformation, teen mental health woes, and the January 6 Capitol events.
Reports confirm that Jeremy Strong—best known as Kendall Roy in Succession—is the front-runner to play Zuckerberg, stepping into the role made famous by Jesse Eisenberg, who has declined to return. Meanwhile, Mikey Madison is being eyed to play whistleblower Frances Haugen, and Jeremy Allen White for Wall Street Journal journalist Jeff Horwitz.

Though David Fincher won't return for this sequel, Sorkin is fully steering the ship with a strong production team that includes Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser. The project is still in development, and no official release date has been set.
This isn’t a continuation of Facebook’s founding story—instead it promises a darker, more sobering portrait of the platform’s fallout. With Zuckerberg’s character at centre-stage and internal ethics at issue, audiences can expect Sorkin’s signature blend of dialogue-driven drama and socio-political commentary.
