The Irish woman who died in a bus crash in Dubai yesterday has been named locally as Fiona Geraghty from North County Dublin.

The 27-year-old teacher from Balbriggan was one of 17 people from different countries who died in the crash.

It is understood her boyfriend, who is from Lanesboro in County Longford, is being treated for injuries.

It happened at around 6pm local time (1pm Irish time) yesterday, when the bus smashed into a warning sign coming off a major motorway.

India says 12 of the victims were Indian citizens.

The Department of Foreign Affairs here says it's aware of the case, and is ready to help if asked.

The driver of the bus, who is in his fifties, is being treated for minor injuries.

Dubai police have offered their "sincere condolences and sympathies" to the families of those who died.
