The Wolfe Tones' rebel song 'Come out Ye Black and Tans' has hit the top of the iTunes charts in both Ireland and the UK.

It's after the Government was forced to call off a commemoration ceremony for the Royal Irish Constabulary.

The plan to remember those involved in the police force the pre-dated An Garda Siochana faced a major public backlash.

Some politicians criticised the event, due to be held at Dublin Castle later this month, describing it as disrespectful and divisive.

The Taoiseach denied it would have been a celebration, and said he felt Ireland should be mature enough to acknowledge all aspects of its past.

The plan faced a major backlash due to the RIC's association with the Black and Tans and the Auxiliaries during the War of Independence.

The Government says it still wants to go ahead with a ceremony in the months ahead.
