Sounds intense!

The Batman Universe is expanding, and Colin Farrell as the villainous Oswald Cobblepot aka ‘The Penguin’, is getting his own spin-off.

Same as when the character first appeared in the 2022 The Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson in the leading role, the Dublin actor looks unrecognisable from his usual self in the first teaser trailer for the series which dropped last week.

Colin Farrell recently told MovieZine that the series is “incredibly violent,” which should come as good news to The Batman fans who wanted to see a darker side to the film.

“It was a long and really wonderful experience,” Farrell said about filming The Penguin series.

“It’s dark; that’s what I can tell you about it. It’s really dark. It’s really heavy, I think— it certainly was doing it. Which is not to say I didn’t have fun, I had an amazing time doing it. It’s incredibly violent. It’s one man’s rise to what he’s always dreamed of inhabiting, which is a certain power or social status.”

The Batman film which first introduced Colin Farrell as the Gotham city gangster didn’t quite have the same intensity as the movie's director was keen to keep it to a PG-13 rating.

“In my mind, the movie was always going to be a gritty, edgy, noir, thrilling spectacle that was PG-13,” Matt Reeves told Den of Geek.

“That was always what it was, but I always knew that we’d be pushing the limits of what that could be, and so we didn’t really have to cut anything… I’m happy we got the rating because I want people to be able to come to see the movie.”

The series will be available to viewers in the US on the streaming platform ‘Max’ but hopefully Batman fans on this side of the Atlantic will have a way of watching it too when it’s released!
