Sam Asghari has spoken for the first time since it was reported he was filing for divorce from Britney Spears.
In a statement he made on Instagram, the model said he and Britney will “hold onto the love and respect” they have for each other, as they divorce just one year after tying the knot.

The 29-year-old said in his statement that asking for privacy “seems ridiculous” but asked that the public be “kind and thoughtful” as they navigate this difficult time.
This statement reads a little different to the reports that were coming out yesterday regarding the pair’s separation.
It was alleged that Sam was threatening to release "extraordinarily embarrassing" information on Britney if their prenup wasn't renegotiated.

This came after the details of their divorce filings became public and it showed that Sam was looking to seek more financial support from Britney, including getting her to foot the bill for his divorce lawyers.
The documents filed cited "irreconcilable differences" as reasons for the divorce and the separation was dated 3 weeks ago.
Following this media frenzy, it was reported that Britney herself has hired a team of top Hollywood lawyers to assist with the divorce proceedings, including Mathew Rosengart who helped her end her 13-year-long conservatorship.
Britney herself is yet to comment publicly on the news - but she hasn't been quiet either!
The first thing she posted when the news came out is a photo on Instagram where she told fans in the caption she was thinking about "buying a horse soon".
