Lana Del Rey has fired back after The Irish Times labelled her Monday gig at Dublin's Aviva Stadium “by far the strangest performance the venue has hosted”, responding personally on Instagram with a pointed reply: “Ooh I think this is the wrong take on the angle for the story.”
Thousands packed the stadium for what became her biggest Irish show yet, but not all reviews were glowing. The headline review called the performance “strange” and “bizarre”—highlighting moments like southern gothic dancers, Allen Ginsberg recitations off-stage, and even hologram interludes.
Lana’s Instagram rebuttal ignited discussion online. Many fans leapt to her defence:
“I wish people who didn’t understand Lana didn’t go to her concerts, and more importantly, didn’t review them.”
“When you get it, you get it… otherwise you don’t.”
Still, not everyone was impressed. Some concert-goers felt it was short (just 14 songs), sound was off, and staging saw her “disappearing for two songs”, with reports the show felt better suited to smaller venues.
All told, Lana’s response reflects a clear divide: championed by loyal fans who got the theatrical ambition, critiqued by those expecting more conventional stadium fare. But as she said, if you understand her vision—this was unmistakably Lana doing it her way.
