Bradley Cooper’s latest directorial venture, Is This Thing On?, is set to premiere as the closing night gala at the 63rd New York Film Festival, showing at Alice Tully Hall on 10 October 2025.

The film reunites Cooper with long-time collaborator Will Arnett, along with Laura Dern and a stellar ensemble including Sean Hayes, Andra Day, Amy Sedaris, and Ciarán Hinds.

The comedy-drama follows Arnett as Alex, who, after an amicable divorce from Tess (Dern), navigates life as a single dad while diving into New York’s stand-up comedy scene. Bradley appears in a supporting role as Arnie, Alex’s loyal best friend. The screenplay—co-written by Arnett and Mark Chappell—draws inspiration from British comedian John Bishop, offering a heartfelt, life-affirming look at love, identity and reinvention.

Filming wrapped in April 2025, with post-production underway and Searchlight Pictures targeting a fall release. The closing slot at NYFF signals serious awards-season intent for Cooper—following on from his acclaimed work on Maestroand A Star Is Born.
