If you’ve been following the lives of the characters in Westeros and Easteros and you’re busting to see more, then the wait is nearly over. Series 5 of the TV show will air on Sky Atlantic on April 13 at 9pm.

BUT THATS NOT THE NEWS....

If you’ve been reading the books you will know that the story hasn’t yet ended. And George has yet to write it all! However, yesterday author George RR Martin, released an excerpt from the next novel “The Winds Of Winter” – the next book in the series.

But first - A quick history lesson in Game of Thrones:

The story of Games of Throne takes place in a medieval-ish fantasy world where different people are fighting to rule the lot. Insert giants, dwarves, sex, fighting, death, dragons, black magic and armies of freed slaves.

The books are from a series called A Song of Ice and Fire” by George RR Martin.

A Game of Thrones was the 1st book in that series, and became the basis for the television series. But four further books were written. A Clash Of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crowes and A Dance with Dragons (which was so big it was split into 2 books)

So back to the new bit ...

If you managed to stick with it through to A Dance with Dragons you will know there’s no ending and you would have been waiting with bated breath for the next bit so ... breath....

The chapter is about Sansa Stark and it begins with her reading a story to her cousin Sweetrobin Robert Arryn.

She was reading her little lord a tale of the Winged Knight when Mya Stone came knocking on the door of his bedchamber,  clad in boots and riding leathers and smelling strongly of the stable. Mya had straw in her hair and a scowl on her face. That  scowl comes of having Mychel Redfort near, Alayne knew.

“Your lordship,” Mya informed Lord Robert, “Lady Waynwood’s banners have been seen an hour down the road. She will be  here soon, with your cousin Harry. Will you want to greet them?”

Why did she have to mention Harry? Alayne thought. We will never get Sweetrobin out of bed now. The boy slapped a pillow.  “Send them away. I never asked them here.”

Mya looked nonplussed. No one in the Vale was better at handling a mule, but lordlings were another matter. “They were  invited,” she said uncertainly, “for the tourney. I don’t… “

Alayne closed her book.  “Thank you, Mya. Let me talk with Lord Robert, if you would.”

Relief plain on her face, Mya fled without another word.

Mr. Martin published the first book in 1996 and has sold more than 60 million copies of the series worldwide. And going on the reaction to yesterdays new excerpt it shows no signs of stopping.
