43-year-old David Harvey of Millfield, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow is accused of attacking a woman and violent behaviour in a Garda Station.
It happened in the early hours of this morning, at a house at Kilcross Lawn in Sandyford, in South Dublin.
Garda Ian Cahill speaking before Dublin District Court said a unit came across a male and female in an extremely agitated state.
The accused had grabbed the injured woman by the neck and it was alleged he had punched her in the eye.
Mr Harvey made no reply to the charges and to the claim of violent behaviour in Blackrock Garda Station after his arrest.
He was ordered to stay away from the scene of the alleged assault, stay sober and sign on to his local Garda Station.
The DPP will issue further guidance to the case ahead of another court appearance next week.
