The Office is going down under!

The popular comedy franchise based on the lives and relationships of office workers is getting an Australian remake - with a female lead!

The series will be hosted on Prime Video and see Australian comedian Felicity Ward (known for The Inbetweeners 2) portray Hannah Howard, the managing director of packaging company.

Unlike the previous versions of The Office, it will be set in a post Covid world. Just as the pandemic is beginning in fact! Hannah Howard gets news from head office that her branch will be shutting down and that staff will have to work from home. She goes into survival mode, making promises she can’t keep and launches outlandish plots in order to keep her “work family” together.

Believe it or not, this is the 13th iteration of the original UK show which was created by Ricky Gervais. The format has also been adapted for offices in France, Canada, Chile, Israel and the Middle East. The more you know!

All we know about the show so far is that it will be an 8-part series and filming will start in Sydney in June.

A whole host of Australian and New Zealand actors have been cast in the show.
Edith Poor (The Power of the Dog), Steen Raskopolous (The Duchess), Shari Sebbens (Thor: Love and Thunder), Josh Thomson (Young Rock), Jonny Brugh (What We Do In The Shadows), Pallavi Sharda, Susan Ling Young, Raj Labade, Lucy Schmit and Firass Dirani.

When asked how he feels about an Australian version, Ricky Gervais said:

"I’m very excited about Australia remaking my little show from the turn of the century. Office politics have changed a bit in 20 years, so can’t wait to see how they navigate a modern-day David Brent.”
