New details have been released about Peaky Blinders season 6. The show's creator Steven Knight gave an update on the red carpet at last night's National Television Awards.

According to the Birmingham Mail, the writer told PA: "(It's going to be) better than ever. It's the best yet.

"It's moving the story forward. We always jump in time so we are into the 30s. Expect the unexpected."

Knight then added: "Because of the nature of the decade, the 30s, we know what happened at the end - that war began. There are rumblings and rumours of war and that is overshadowing the whole thing.

"It makes it all the more... the stakes are higher."

Elsewhere this week, director Anthony Byrne confirmed that season 6 of the drama has already gone into pre-production.

On Instagram, Byrne shared an image of the front page of a script.

The date on the script appears to be blurred out, however some eagle-eyed fans reckon '8th January 2021' could be the release date of the new series.

No air date has been confirmed, but we'll be sure to keep you posted!
