A man has been charged after a pensioner was stabbed in north Dublin yesterday.

Gardaí responded to reports that a man in his early 70s had been stabbed in the leg in Ashtown yesterday morning.

It's alleged to have happened in the River Road area at around 11.40am.

The man was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew before being taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Gardaí arrested a man in his 20s close to the scene and a knife was recovered.

He was taken to Cabra Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 before being charged in connection with the investigation.

The man is due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court at 10.30am this morning.
