Another part of Dublin city centre is going traffic free from today.

Cars are banned from Parliament Street in Temple Bar as part of the next phase of the city council's transport plan. Some local access and morning deliveries will still be permitted.

It comes after several trial runs and follows in the footsteps of Capel Street directly across the River Liffey, which was pedestrianised in 2022.

Claire French, senior executive engineer with the council, says over 90 per cent of people were in favour of the move;

"It's a continuation of Capel Street which has been very successful. So it's providing now a new link, especially for cycling, taking you all the way from Dame Street up to Bolton Street."

A new two-way cycle track will be added on Grattan Bridge, while one lane of traffic will be removed from the crossing.

The current west to east traffic flow, between Essex Gate and Essex Street East, will remain open to traffic.
