A 49-year-old man has appeared in court after a truck reversed through the gates of the Russian Embassy in Dublin yesterday.

Desmond Wisley, of Tully, Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, has been granted bail.

Desmond Wisley appeared before Judge Patricia McNamara at Tallaght District Court this morning.

Garda Aishling Conroy of Tallaght Garda Station told the court that Mr Wisley was charged with criminal damage and with dangerous driving.

It's alleged Mr Wisley was the driver of a truck which crashed through the gates of the Russian Embassy yesterday afternoon.

Mr Wisley was not represented by a solicitor in court, so he did speak on a number of occasions.

That included the confirmation of his name, as well as agreeing to bail conditions after no objections were raised by Gardai.

Among the bail conditions, Mr Wisley was asked to stay away from the Orwell Road in Dublin 14.

He was also asked to avoid direct or indirect contact with Russian Embassy, to stay away from the Ailesbury Road in Dublin 4 and to refrain from posting about the charges on social media.

He will appear before Tallaght District Court again on April 26th.
