Lisa Smith has been charged with membership of a terrorist organisation.

The 38 year old Dundalk woman was denied bail when she appeared before the Dublin District Court this afternoon.

Lisa Smith, who travelled to Syria in 2015, is accused of being a member of the terrorist oranisation, ISIS.

The court heard she made no reply when the charge was put to her at Kevin Street Garda Station this morning.

She appeared in court in a burqa - initially exposing her face but covering it once proceedings began.

Gardaí objected to bail on a number of grounds, including that Ms Smith was a potential flight risk.

Judge Colin Daly refused bail and remanded her in custody to Dochas Womens Prison to appear before the court again on December 11th.

Her legal team made a request that for her own security, she be segregated from the general prison population.

Judge Daly said he could make a recommendation to the prison Governor and granted legal aid to Ms Smith after stating that he understood she was a woman of 'no means'.
