Irish Rail says it's hired more security to deal with things like intimidation, vandalism and theft.

Figures seen by The Times Ireland Edition show Irish Rail received more than 560 passenger complaints in 2018.

That is an increase of 37% in two years.

Complaints were also made about abuse, begging and anti-social behaviour.

47.9 million trips were made on Irish Rail services during 2018.

Jane Cregan from Irish Rail said the company is working to reverse the rise in negative feedback.

She explained that they have "increased security and live monitoring" in areas where there is higher anti-social behaviour.

"The vast majority of passenger journeys are peaceful", she said.
