A celebration of the Irish language gets underway in Dublin city centre this afternoon.

Lá Mór na Gaeilge -(pron: law more na gale-ga) - the big day of Irish - is hosted by Conradh na Gaeilge and Dubiln City Council.

Bodhran workshops and a Ceili Mor are just some of the events planned at Parnell square north from 12 - 4pm.

Dublin City Council Arts Officer Ray Yates says it's a free event, and everyone is invited to take part in the fun:

"We're going to close the road so everyone can come, families etc. It's very important to note that it's not just for fluent Irish speakers our motto is 'from fluent to cupla focal'. Even if you've only a little bit of Irish, or have just started learning it. Perhaps you're just interested in it, come along and use what you can".
