Tackling dereliction and giving the GPO a makeover are some of the Dublin City Taskforce plans approved by the Government.
The "Roadmap for Delivery" outlines a 10-year plan on rejuvenating the capital.
Enticing investment, improving transport and regenerating social housing in the city centre are just of the roadmap goals.
There will also be the construction of the Parnell Square Cultural Quarter, which will house the new city library.
Tanáiste Simon Harris, says the plans will improve Dublin not just for visitors, but for locals.
"We all know that Dublin is a great city, it's rich in culture and history but we also know we can do even better.
"Like many other urban centres, it has faced challenges across the area of dereliction, underused public sites, public safety concerns, social inequality and a public realm that doesn't always match how the people of this city live daily and how they want to live into the future."
Martin Gear is the owner of Martin Gear Jewellers on Mary Street.
He welcomes the proposal says Dublin 1 has been neglected in the past.
"It's (already) started. There's pedestrianisation, flowers and they're improving and cleaning up.
"There is actually a massive increase in Garda numbers in the city centre. I see it, all day every day."
