The Weeknd’s global smash hit “Blinding Lights” has achieved a landmark on Spotify — it is officially the first song in the platform’s history to exceed 5 billion streams.
Spotify confirmed the milestone on 31 August 2025, as part of a congratulatory post shared on the platform’s official Instagram.
Originally released in November 2019 as the second single from his fourth studio album After Hours, the synth-pop anthem has continued to dominate. It previously became the first track to surpass 4 billion streams on Spotify, and has held the top spot as the most-streamed song on the service since early 2024.

“Blinding Lights” also holds a place in music history for its chart dominance — topping the Billboard Hot 100 and staying within the top 10 for an entire year, a feat unequalled at the time. Its enduring appeal is reflected not only in streaming numbers but also in its titles as Billboard’s Greatest Hot 100 Song of All Time and a cultural touchstone of the streaming era.
