A driver has been detected travelling over 200 kilometres per hour on Dublin's M50 on National Slow Down Day.

Gardai say this person now faces a hefty fine and could also be disqualified from driving.

Since 7 o'clock this morning 693 drivers have been caught speeding.

More than 87 thousand vehicles have had their speed checked over the course of the day.

Since 7am this morning, GoSafe has checked the speed of 87,350 vehicles. 693 vehicles have been detected travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.
