Irish actors Paul Mescal and Emma Canning graced the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday night for the premiere of their new film, The History of Sound.

The film, directed by Oliver Hermanus, is a historical romantic drama set in the aftermath of World War I. It follows the journey of two young men, David (played by Josh O'Connor) and Lionel (played by Paul Mescal), who travel across America recording folk songs. Their shared experiences lead to a profound connection between them.

At its Cannes debut, The History of Sound received a six-minute standing ovation, with many audience members visibly moved by the film's poignant storytelling.
