A man in his 20s has been charged in connection with an armed robbery on a taxi driver in Dublin city centre.

It happened shortly at around 2.45 am on Wednesday morning when a taxi driver was waiting to pick up a fare on Mill Street in Dublin 8.

A man pointed a gun at him, threatened him and demanded money, before striking the driver a number of times, hitting him in the face and body.

The gunman made off with a number of stolen items but was arrested by Gardaí after he fled on foot.

The stolen property and a gun were recovered.

The man has since been charged in connection with the case and will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning.
