Man Arrested At Checkpoint After Gardai Notice Smell Of Cannabis

A man has been arrested at an Operation Fanacht checkpoint on the N7 after gardai noticed a strong smell of cannabis.

Gardaí say the driver refused to take a drug test, and they then searched the car and found a quanity of cannabis on a passenger in the vehicle.

The driver, an Eastern European man in his 30s was arrested for Drug Driving offences and taken to Clondalkin Garda Station.

He was later released pending a file to be submitted to the DPP.

Further checks carried out while the man was detained found that a live European Arrest Warrant was in place for a number of serious offences.

He was arrested on foot of the warrant and appeared before the High Court this morning.
