Sir Billy Connolly, the legendary Scottish comedian-turned-artist, has unveiled a new collection of limited-edition artworks titled Born on a Rainy Day, released via Castle Fine Art.

The series includes four vibrant pieces—Saturday Night, Sausage Tree, Sunburned, and Fly Away Peter—each drawing on personal memories and decades of creativity. ($£1,150 each; full portfolio priced around £2,950 unframed or £3,950 framed.)

In Saturday Night, Connolly captures a flamboyant piano player striking “the leg thing,” a nod to Sir Elton John. The moment was inspired by the “backheeling” stool incident during their 1976 US tour, recalling Rox’s unforgettable energy and antics.

Other pieces are equally evocative. Sausage Tree recalls a journey through the Scottish countryside with his daughter, when she dubbed an unusual seed-bearing bush a “sausage tree.” Sunburned humorously portrays a tartan-clad Scotsman turning lobster-red under rare rays of sunshine, promising idiosyncratic laughter. Meanwhile, Fly Away Peter features a colourful, bird-surrounded figure—“beautiful,” in Connolly’s words—designed simply to bring joy.

At age 82 and living with Parkinson’s disease, Connolly spoke candidly about his evolution as an artist: “It’s taken me years to call my art beautiful … I would never dream of saying it before … But I’m quite good. I can make people smile and feel happy.”
