Hugh Grant channelled his Oompa Loompa character from the Wonka film as he came on stage at last night's BAFTA Awards to present the award for Best Director.

As he stood at the podium, the audience waited with bated breath for what he was going to say - until he breaks out into his own dry version of the Oompa Loompa song.

“Oompa Loompa doom-pity-dee/ now the best director cate-gor-ee" the actor recited in the spoken word.

After a few laughs, he continued:

"Oompa Loompa doom-pity-dong/ Most of these films were frankly too long."

"Oompa Loompa doom-pity-dah/ But for some reason the nominees are…”

The award ended up going to Christopher Nolan for Oppenheimer, which was in fact, the movie with the longest runtime at just over 3 hours.

In his acceptance speech, Christopher Nolan acknowledged all the organisations that “fought long and hard to reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world.”

“In accepting this I do just want to acknowledge their efforts and point out they show the necessity and potential of efforts for peace,” he added.
