A 24-hour rain warning has been issued for Dublin.

All of Leinster and Munster are affected by the yellow weather alert that will last until 6am tomorrow morning.

Met Éireann says intense and potentially thundery downpours today and tonight may lead to localised flooding.

After extremely wet conditions recently, there's also concern river levels may rise even further and cause waterways to burst their banks.

The latest weather alert comes just days after Storm Francis hit causing thousands of power outages across the country, along with flooding.

Dublin forecast

Mostly cloudy today with showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times, with a risk of thundery downpours. Localised flooding may occur. Maximum temperature of just 14 or 15 degrees.

Further showers or longer spells of rain tonight with a continued risk of spot flooding. While Friday will be cool, blustery and showery.
