We love them for the middle aisle of random junk and cheap shopping adventures. Now, it looks like Lidl could be set to open its first pub in South Dublin.
The German supermarket chain are looking into the site of the old Belgard Inn, which they bought five years ago for the development of a new store.
A line in the planning application hints at possible plans for a pub, alongside the new store: "In addition the development includes four retail units (adaptable for a variety of commercial uses) and a public house."
A spokesperson for Lidl told RSVP Live: "Lidl have confirmed there will be a hospitality unit on site.
"There's no confirmation yet if it will be a pub or a restaurant, but there will be a hospitality unit.
"It's still early days. The work won't be finished until spring next year."
Work has now started on the development of the new retail unit in Tallaght.
