Nearly three quarters of children in Oberstown Detention Centre in Dublin have substance misuse problems.

That's one of the findings from its annual report for 2019, which shows 95 per of the residents were boys.

A total of 127 children were on remand or in detention in Oberstown in 2019.

71 per cent in the first three months of last year had substance misuse problems, and 41 per cent had a mental health need.

Nearly six out of ten children weren't in education prior to detention, and nearly a quarter had a diagnosed learning disability.

37 per cent were being punished for theft charges.

Four out of ten residents were either in care or had involvement with Tusla, the child and family agency.
