A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Annie McCarrick.
The 26 year old American went missing from her home in Sandymount in Dublin in March 1993.
Gardaí say a man in his 60's was detained on suspicion of her murder this morning.
A search operation is also underway at a house in the Clondalkin area of Dublin and the home and garden will be the subject of both technical and forensic examinations.
The residents currently living at the address are not connected in any way to Annie McCarrick's murder according to Gardaí.
They have also issued an appeal for anyone who may have any information about Annie's murder to come forward and say it will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
Officers are also appealing to anyone that may have previously come forward but who felt that they could not provide Gardaí with all of the relevant information they had in relation to this matter, to make contact with An Garda Síochána again.
