The decision to cancel plans for a Christmas Market in Dublin's Temple Bar has been labelled 'stupid' by a local trade group.

It was due to start this weekend in Meeting House Square, and run on Fridays and Sundays.

However organisers have been told it's not possible under the current public health restrictions.

Martin Harte from the Temple Bar Company says that doesn't make sense, as markets are open in other parts of the city:

"Well we've been told that the HSE thinks this market is an 'event' as opposed to the market in the RDS."

"So we're slightly concerned about that, the Gardaí are on board, the City Council's on board and so are the traders themselves."

"Look, it's very disappointing, and it's really a very stupid decision, maybe someone could buy them a dictionary for Christmas you know?"
