A new task force on homelessness in Dublin will meet every week to come up with practical measures to tackle the issue.

The Lord Mayor Hazel Chu established the task force which met for the first time today.

It will compile a 'wish-list' of measures it wants introduced and supported, which will be presented to the Minister for Housing.

Lord Mayor Hazel Chu says: "Having a home is a basic human right and no one should be homeless in Dublin in the year 2020. Over the next few months I look forward to working with this dedicated and enthusiastic team to come up with some practical ideas to help tackle this issue."

The group is made up of councillors from each political group on Dublin City Council, officials from the council Housing Department, and representatives from the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive.
