Dublin has a new Lord Mayor.
Fine Gael councillor Ray McAdam has become the 358th first citizen of Dublin following a vote among councillors last night.
He succeeds his party colleague Emma Blain to take the year-long job that includes the perk of living in the Mansion House on Dawson Street.
The Cavan native says transforming the city centre will be a key focus.

In his acceptance speech, he announced a Lord Mayor's commission to prepare long-term measure to change the city centre for the better by 2050.
The Lord Mayor said: "Dublin is a city I love deeply. But like many Dubliners, I know it can do better. That’s why the theme of my mayoralty is simple but powerful: Celebrating Dublin. To celebrate Dublin is not to ignore its problems. It’s the opposite. It’s about lifting our city up and asking it, and ourselves, to live up to the best of what it can be."
Creating a Dublin Vacancy Map and pushing for the reuse of empty buildings is among the councillor's other priorities, along with promoting sport and physical activity and giving young people a voice in shaping civic life.
