A swimmer has been rescued at the Forty Foot by Dun Laoghaire RNLI.

The volunteer lifeboat crew was paged yesterday after the Irish Coast Guard received a report that a swimmer was in difficulty and couldn't get back to shore.

The inshore lifeboat was launched, and they say they found the casualty holding on to rocks 50 metres southeast of the Forty Foot.

The person was very cold from the long exposure to the sea temperature but otherwise in good health.

The RNLI is reminding people to check the weather and sea conditions, even if the sun is shining.
