Tiger Woods to captain US at 2022 Ryder Cup? Kevin Na thinks so

Kevin Na may have let slip one of US golf's biggest secrets: Tiger Woods to captain their 2022 Ryder Cup team.

The world number 30 told Sky Sports that he is aiming to play at Whistling Straits himself later this year.

However, he also ensured a couple of terse phone calls from the US PGA hierarchy.

"My goal is to make the Ryder Cup team this year, and I know the following Ryder Cup is in Italy and the captain I believe is Tiger Woods, so that's another thing that I'm looking forward to," Na said.

Steve Stricker will lead the United States in Wisconsin this September, as they aim to wrestle back the famous trophy from the grip of Padraig Harrington's Europe.

Na quickly realised his error in potentially revealing Stricker's successor, "I heard rumours! Am I starting a rumour? That's what I heard. Am I not supposed to say anything? I don't know, I've heard rumours!

"I won't tell you who I heard them from, but it wasn't from him. It was from one of his friends!"

Woods was playing captain of the United States team that beat the rest of the world in the 2019 President's Cup in Melbourne.

He also served as a vice-captain to Jim Furyk at Le Golf National in Paris in 2018.

The PGA Tour is set to resume with the Charles Schwab Challenge on June 11.

At least the first four tournaments on the calendar will be played behind closed doors, while a fan-free Ryder Cup also remains a possibility.

That's not something that would bother Na - should he qualify.

"I'd be happy to tee it up," he told Sky.

"It's still an honour, you're still playing for your country, the whole world is watching. Yes, you wouldn't have that same atmosphere and the atmosphere at a Ryder Cup is just extraordinary, but I would still be honoured to play.

"That said, pushing it to 2021 isn't actually a bad idea. We can get the fans going and we can have back-to-back years of Ryder Cup, that would be very cool."
