Hull City manager Steve Bruce has defended Maynor Figueroa's challenge on Stoke's Stephen Ireland at the weekend.

The Corkman was left with a horrible gash to his calf after the Tigers' defender followed through on a tackle.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes called Figueroa's challenge "shocking" while claiming the tackle could have ended the Irish player's career and that Figueroa should have been sent off since the injury needed 12 to 15 stitches.

Not surprisingly, Hughes' old Manchester United team mate, Bruce has an opposing view and thinks Ireland should have been sent off before that incident

Meanwhile, Sunderland's Wes Brown has had his red card rescinded by the Football Association because of "wrongful dismissal".

He was sent off in Saturday's Premier League defeat at Manchester United for a challenge on Radamel Falcao but it was actually John O'Shea who committed the foul.

Brown's one match suspension has been withdrawn, and he can play against Hull tomorrow night.
