St Pat's were denied a famous European win in injury time last night. The Saints drew 1-1 draw away to Polish champions Legia Warsaw in the first-leg of the Champions League second qualifying round.

The Saints, who are appearing in the competition for the first time since the 1999/2000 season, went in at the break a goal to the good after an impressive first-half showing. Ian Bermingham's cut-back from the left found Christy Fagan who tapped home to give Pats the lead after 38 minutes.

Iñaki Astiz cleared off the goal line from Fagan before Legia - coached by former Manchester United FC defender Henning Berg - were unlucky not to level the scoreline with Hélio Pinto hitting the bar on the stroke of half-time.

After sustained pressure from the home side in the second half they eventually found the breakthrough deep into stoppage time when Ondrej Duda set up Miroslav Radovic.

The second leg is at Tallaght Stadium next Wednesday.
