If they had offered him a longer contract, Munster legend Peter Stringer could have been wearing Leinster blue for the forthcoming season.
The 37-year-old left Bath in May after two and a half years, where he was replaced by Fijian scrum-half Niko Matawalu, but stated his intention to keep playing elsewhere.
Former Leinster boss Matt O'Connor admitted in February that bringing the former Munster player in as cover could be a possibility with Eoin Reddan and Isaac Boss in the World Cup shake-up.
